Most people can benefit from adding more nutrition to their daily diet. Research tells us that consuming at least 6-8 servings of fruits and vegetables per day can help prevent a variety of cancers, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis, and many other health problems. However, research also tells us that less than 30% of adults are eating even 5 servings of produce per day.
So, here’s one way to help increase your fruit and vegetable consumption each day and benefit from vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, much more than you would get in any supplement or multivitamin.
Blended salads or smoothies are a convenient way to consume foods that you would not normally eat on their own. Take kale for example. It is one of the most nutrient dense foods out there, yet it is very bitter and not very appetizing to most people. However, you can blend kale with a banana, apple, and/or cup of blueberries, and you will not taste the kale one bit. You can do the same thing with swiss chard, spinach, collared greens, and other dark leafy green vegetables.
Blended salads and smoothies are also a great way to eat more fruits and vegetables in less time. For example, it would take someone a long time to eat a spinach salad, an apple, and a cup of blueberries. But, when blended together, you can drink down the entire mixture in just a few minutes.
In addition to all of the above, blending also makes nutrients more available. The process of blending at high speeds (preferably in a Vitamix) breaks down the tough cell walls of plants and exposes nutrients that would be tough for our bodies to extract otherwise.
Here’s a short video that gives an example of how to make super nutritious blended salads/smoothie.

If you suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, or other diseases tied to poor nutrition and lifestyle, try adding a smoothie/blended salad to your daily diet. You might be surprised by the results.
Enjoy!!!

This is great! I started drinking smoothies daily over the summer. I noticed a huge increase in my energy and mood. I literally throw everything but the kitchen sink in the blender and it always tastes good!
